I have to say this is obviously the most overrated season of The Ultimate Fighter I have ever watched.
Entourage is coming to Spike which means that it’s going to be watered down with none of the stuff that makes it so good, like the clever one liners and the women. But I digress.
So far Rashad and Rampage have almost come to blows again, which is rather anticlimactic because we have no clue when they’re actually going to fight. As it turns out this could be one of those Hughes/Serra moments where it happens when no one cares about it anymore and they’re both not at their prime. I find it kind of hypocritical that Rashad does all this banter with Rampage yet tries to play the role of the wise coach with his team. (I do have to say Rampage had a valid point when he said don’t threaten me then say “wait till we get the chance”. I mean if you threaten to break your foot off in in someone’s ass seems like you should be ready to do it at the time you say it.)
Also why hasn’t the coaches challenge happened yet? Get some of this aggression out.
So the match-ups last night was Matt Mitrione vs. Scott Junk for this week, and Marcus Jones vs. Matt Wessel for next week. At this point after seeing everyone in the house fight I’d say the best fights are yet to come.
As for tonight’s fight, round one was yet another example of why these heavyweights need to learn about a little thing I like to call cardio. Mitrione gassed himself by punching way too much and getting carried away without finishing the fight. Junk on the other hand was also gassed but was able to collect himself enough to land some huge blows at the end of the round.
Now in round two these gassed behemoths came out extremely apprehensive. This set the pace for round two to be slower than molasses. However I got a little excited when Junk scored an early takedown thinking that he could take the round. Of course TUF employs the same judges that scored the Sweeney/Shivers fight and the Machida/Rua fight for that matter. For some reason there was no round 3 because someone seems to think Mitrione won round 2, which I don’t think he did.
Blah blah blah Rampage finally rips the cheap door down. (way to cut construction costs Dana)
I hate to sound bitter but this season is just presenting so many holes for me. I think they could be fixed with the following.
I think next season instead of fighters as coaches they should pick camps. It’d be much more exciting to have American Top Team vs. Black House, or Greg Jackson vs. Mark Delagrotte. Then you’d have good coaching guaranteed in the house and no risk of the “Rampage Effect”.
Secondly, I don’t think anyone should be able to pick their teams. I think Joe Silva should pick the teams with match-ups in mind then let the coaches pick whatever match-ups they like. That way we could’ve seen match-ups in the first round this season like Wes Shivers vs. Marcus Jones, or Roy Nelson vs. Darrill Schoonover, or James McSweeney vs. Demico Rogers, or that giant guy Abe vs. Matt Mitrione. I think Rashad made this season way too much of a reality show by stacking the deck in his favor. The UFC isn’t like that in real life.
Regardless now I’m all frustrated, ugh…
BTW my prediction is that Rashad’s team is going 8-0. My favorites to win it all are Justin Wren or Brendan Schuab.
