Although everyone's immediate focus is on UFC 104 this Saturday I figured I would do a quick breakdown on StrikeForce's Fedor vs. Rogers event taking place Saturday Nov. 7th at The Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates Illinois.
The under card isn't being talked about much but the main card looks like it is going to be a decent one.
For starters it's going to be televised live on CBS for free so check your local listings. The main card is as follows:
Fabricio "Vai Cavalo" Werdum (12-4-1) vs. Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva (13-1) in the Heavyweight division. Werdum is coming off a win via Guillotine choke over Mike Kyle while Silva is coming in with a 6 fight win streak beating his last opponent Jim York via Arm Triangle Choke.
Gegard Mousasi (22-6-1) vs. Rameau Thierry "The African Assasin" Sokodjou (7-4) at 205lbs. Mousasi is coming off an impressive victory via KO over Renato Sobral while Sokodjou is coming off of a win via TKO GNP over Bob Sapp. Sokodjou already has a fight scheduled for Dec. 31st in Japan after what most people figure to be a quick loss against Mousasi.
Jake Shields (23-4-1) vs. Jason "Mayhem" Miller (22-6) at 185lbs. for the Middleweight Championship. Shields submitted Robbie Lawler via Guillotine Choke last June. Miller on the other hand had a "no decision" against Ronaldo Souza because Miller illegally kicked Souza in the head while he was on the ground. Prior to that stoppage he was able to sink a RNC on Kala Hose last April.
The main event features Fedor Emelianenko (30-1) vs. Brett Rogers (10-0) in the Heavyweight division. Emelianenko is considered by some to be the best pound for pound fighter in the world. I couldn't disagree more but that's a story for a different day. Fedor is coming off of a KO win over Andrei Arlovski while Rogers is coming off of a TKO over Arlovski. In my opinion Fedor hasn't been the best P4P fighter since he beat "Cro Cop" in August of 2005. Every recognizable fighter he beat after that was passed their prime. I'm not making my picks today but I am pulling for Rogers to KO Fedor early in the fight. Fedor is a master on the ground & loves the arm bar submission. I hope Rogers keeps the fight standing & takes his time. And just so everyone knows... Rogers will not be considered the best fighter of all time if he beats Fedor. Fedor's fans will have a long list of excuses. I believe StrikeForce could also have some problems if both Fedor & Carrano lose big fights in SF's last 2 big events.
Our staff picks will be up prior to Nov. 7th.
