P.J.'s Thoughts On UFC 106

UFC 106 was a good card with good fights. We as MMA fans got to see a little bit of everything. Here is what I thought about the main card.

Amir Sadollah def. Phil Baroni via unanimous decision. Baroni came out strong like he always has. I was impressed with Sadollah's striking although it seemed like he was in slow motion at times. Some of his combos would have been telegraphed by a better fighter in my opinion but all in all Amir looked good & came away with the win.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira def. Luiz Cane via TKO (punches). Lil Nog's striking is great. I picked him to win but I didn't think the fight was going to end that fast. That was Cane's second loss of his career. I'm glad the UFC brought Nogueira on board. I'm looking forward to watching him move up the LHW ladder.

Paulo Thiago def. Jacob Volkmann via unanimous decision. I picked Volkmann by submission because all but 2 of his career wins came via submission. He had a few opportunities but couldn't get it done. Thiago is definitely a force at 170lbs.

Josh Koscheck def. Anthony Johnson via submission (rear-naked choke). Koscheck should win an academy award for the shit he pulled with the eye poke ( and a great job by Rogan of calling the complete opposite of what was actually happening ). The knee didn't land by Johnson & Josh decided he would act like it did until he figured out he "couldn't open his eye" even though it was his right eye that was poked by Johnson not his left. I lost what little respect I had for Kos. I believe that swayed the fight. So naturally in return Kos poked Johnson in the eye with an open hand (Refer to UFC 90 vs. Alves). I don't think he did it on purpose. I think he was fighting defensively thinking Rumble would counter with a big shot. Johnson wasn't as aggressive as I thought he would be but that could have something to do with the amount of weight he cuts to fight at 170lbs. I hope Rumble learned a lot from this fight & he comes back stronger. Koscheck seems to think he should be fighting GSP so he decided to call out Dan Hardy who just so happened to be in the crowd...what a coincidence. Brock Lesnar wants to leave the WWE behind him while Koscheck decided to add it to his repertoire. I hope Hardy gets the chance to beat Kos although it makes me think GSP won't be ready to go for a little longer than most expected.

Forrest Griffin def. Tito Ortiz via split decision. I have never liked Ortiz but I have respected him at times. The guy fought with a cracked skull!! LMAO. Who would say that? Nice work "Bad Boy". I picked Forrest to win via TKO in the 2nd. I think he could have done so but chose to keep it standing. Goldberg & Rogan were keeping their fingers crossed that Tito had the gas left to shoot on Forrest & take him down. I believe some would say Tito tried shooting 3 times in the 3rd but he was running on empty. Some people are gracious in defeat...Tito isn't one of them. I hope Forrest gets back on the right track. The "Run Forrest" thing was old the day after it happened. Did anyone happen to see the Junior Seau show on VS. with Forrest after the Silva fight? He seemed to be fine. The guy hates losing. Should he have stood in the cage & ran down a laundry list of excuses?

Next up is TUF Heavyweights Finale on Dec. 5th in Vegas.
